Internet powerhouse Andy Martin wishes Barack Obama a successful inauguration today
“Criticism resumes tomorrow,” Andy says
“Factually Correct, Not
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Best wishes to Barack Obama on a successful presidency.
“When America wins, the whole world wins,” says Andy Martin
(CHICAGO)(January 20, 2009) I was Barack Obama’s first national critic, and there are some indications we helped hold down the vote for his campaign last November. Time will tell.
I remain completely unconvinced by Mr. Obama. The majority of Americans may disagree with my views and conclusions, but I stand by them 100%.
Nevertheless, people can be wrong. I live across the street from the Episcopal Cathedral in Chicago. Today I will stop in to say a brief prayer of best wishes and good luck for President Obama. I also have to pray for a friend of mine in Tel Aviv who is an Obama believer but not a religious believer.
My sense of “being right” about Obama comes with a prayer that I am wrong. Maybe I judged him wrongly. I don’t think so. If I’m right, we confront at east four more years of pain. So I pray I’m wrong.
Today marks the third time my name has been on some presidential enemies list (Nixon, Bush II and Obama). But although I remain on the outside, I don’t think like an outsider. Indeed it is the ability to see inside the system that has allowed my commentary to be searchingly and searingly correct.
I also know this for sure: my own Republicans made a mess of the past eight years. Republican leadership devastated our economy and foreign policy. (More criticism on George Bush to come.) So, yes, people wanted “change;” and we all deserved a change from Bush’s disastrous mismanagement. Republicans need to face the reality of why they lost before they can regroup for victory.
Sadly, Republicans seem to be better on “defense” than “offense.” They did a masterful job of diffusing and deflating Bill Clinton’s excesses. A great defense. But they fumbled the ball with Bush on offense.
At the end of the day, the whole world wins when America wins. We are the most generous and open nation in history.
I may not agree with Mr. Obama, but today I congratulate him on his victory and wish him well. I want America to win. Good luck, Barry. And best wishes.
We’ll be watching. And writing.

URGENT APPEAL: The Committee of One Million to Defeat Barack Obama is raising money to oppose President-elect Barack Obama.
Please give generously. Our ability to fight and defeat Barack Obama is directly dependent on the generosity of every American.
“The Committee of One Million to Defeat Barack Obama has no bundlers, no fat cats and no illegal contributions. Obama is opposed to everything America stands for,” says Executive Director Andy Martin. “But while Obama has raised almost a billion dollars, his opponents have raised virtually nothing. Americans can either contribute now, or pay later. If we do not succeed, Obama will.”
