“Factually Correct, Not
Politically Correct”

(NEW YORK)(September 2, 2008) The leader of the national anti-Obama movement, legendary Chicago Internet columnist and Obama author Andy Martin, will hold a New York news conference Sunday, September 28 to state that media efforts to demonize Governor Sarah Palin are doomed to failure. Martin has been a broadcaster for forty years, see:

“I have not watched every minute of the Palin-media interviews, but I have watched a lot of them, including the parts Palin’s detractors think are the worst. I am left with the question ‘What are her opponents in the media thinking?’

“I thought the Governor’s answer to why she lacked the money to backpack across Europe after college was very Main Street. Most people look for jobs, not a Eurail Pass. Palin is a practical, self-made woman. She is an extraordinary American success story. If she is not eligible to run for vice president, whom else are the media excluding?

“Rather than depreciating Palin, I suspect that the ‘elite’ media are manifesting their own disconnect from reality. The Governor has never pretended to be what she is not. She was focused on state government, and she was asked to join a national ticket. There is a learning curve, a familiarity curve, an experience curve.

“And yes, if I lived in Alaska I would think of the Russians on a regular basis too. When Palin was growing up, the Cold war was a very real part of her life. Alaska was on the front lines. I don’t find it at all unusual that she feels her familiarity with Russia is greater than that of someone living in Manhattan. Perhaps Palin could be a little more glib, for the media of course; but I appreciate her sincerity. I believe Gibson, Couric & Company have exhibited shabby behavior.

“The left is pumping up some anti-Palin comments by columnist Kathleen Parker. Parker is entitled to her opinion. But what is her opinion based on? Overall, I think Governor Palin has done a good job. If no one can ever run for vice president who is not already ready to be vice president before they are nominated, then we have concocted an artificial political ‘elite’ to go with the media ‘elite.’ Luckily, our founders imposed no such qualifications on running for federal office.

“Is Katie Couric the new heavyweight in politics? Was Couric ready to be an evening news anchor? Many would say ‘no.’ Did that stop Katie? Not at all. Couric had a learning curve. She was embarrassing, a lot more embarrassing than any of Palin’s miscues. This country was not founded by or for people that created artificial restraints on public service or corporate service. The elites may want to limit opportunity, but that’s not what the American people want.

“Jane Pauley went from TV stations in Indianapolis and Chicago to the Today Show with very little national experience. She did all right for herself. That’s the American way. Was Bill Clinton qualified to be President before he was nominated in 1992? I doubt it. People grow into the job.

“When first seen Keith Olbermann of MSNBC was a sportscaster. He later made good as a commentator when he discovered his inner hatred for George Bush. No one questions Olbermann’s qualifications and experience to slime Bush every night.

“I salute Senator McCain (for whom I have my own critical column in the works) for picking Governor Palin. What they need to do is bring her along at her pace, not the media’s.

“I don’t necessarily agree with Palin on many issues. But differences of opinion are not disqualifications for office. Unless your opinions differ from those of the media elite. Palin strikes fear into liberal women. Good for her.

“Personally, I wanted McCain to pick a woman for the ticket. He did. I’m very satisfied.

“I am not a heavy television user. But because I write on the current campaign I am compelled to subject myself to a daily diet of the inanities of broadcast media and cable TV bobbleheads. I am looking forward to turning off the tube on November 5th.

“Governor Palin should turn off the media today. Palin made it to where she is without Katie Couric; Sarah Palin will do just fine without the approval of Couric, Gibson and the rest,” Martin will state.
